A month hiatus from blogging: What I learned

Those of you who follow this blog more regularly may have noticed that I’ve been missing in action for the past month. While I blame this partially on my lack of Internet at my house, the intensity of my job in July and feelings reminiscent of summer vacation, I also wanted to take a break to reevaluate my media habits (Thank you, Jim McPherson).

Here’s what I learned about my media consumption in a month hiatus from blogging:

Off to explore the world of media: New York City and Washington, D.C.

What are the key issues facing mass media in the United States today? That is the question I will be exploring along with a group of 11 other students for the month of January in a study trip titled “Media Impact in the Contemporary U.S.”

We will be heading out Thursday to New York City for 10 days and then to Washington, D.C., for nine days. We will be meeting with leaders and members of media organizations in each city including Jim Brady of Washington Post Online, Paula Kerger of PBS, Dave Thomas of Nielsen Co. and many others.

Our group will be recording our experiences on a class blog which you can follow at jmc346.blogspot.com. I’ll try to cross-post occasionally and share some of what I learn here as well.

I’m curious what you would be interested in finding out from these meetings with heads of U.S media. What would you want to know? Questions I receive in the comments section or by e-mail at jlinabary09@gmail.com I will try to find out answers for during our trip.
